Shahrukh Khan wins 6th Radio Mirchi Music Awards

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with the prestigious award at the 6th Radio Mirchi Music Awards held on February 27.

“Extremely touched by all singers coming together to do this for me. It’s given me 10 years of energy to go on stronger and harder. Thank you Mirchi,” the 48-year-old actor had tweeted after the event.

Some of the evergreen romantic songs of the star are ‘Tu Mere Saamne’, ‘Tujhe Dekha To’, ‘Bholi Si Surat’, ‘Main Yahan Hoon’ and ‘Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Ha’ among many others.

At the occasion, ‘Aashiqui 2’ was honoured with several awards including Song of the Year title for its hit number ‘Tum Hi Ho’. The movie’s soundtrack also won Album of the Year award. The award ceremony saw many Indian singers such as Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam and Arijit Singh performing SRK‘s hit songs.

Shah Rukh Khan informally referred to as SRK, is a film actor, producer, TV host, mentor and philanthropist. He is known in the media as ‘Badshah of Bollywood’ or ‘King Khan’. He has acted in more than 50 Hindi films ranging from romance, action and comedies.

His work in the industry has earned him numerous achievements, including 14 Filmfare Awards from 30 nominations. His 8th Filmfare Best Actor Award trophy made him the most awarded Bollywood actor of all time in that category, next only to actor Dilip Kumar.

Shah Rukh was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2005, and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France in 2007 for his contribution to films.

He had begun his career appearing in theatre and some television serials in the late 1980s. He made his Hindi film debut with ‘Deewana’ in 1992. He was also known, earlier in his career, for his unconventional choice of performing in negative roles such as in ‘Darr’ in 1993, ‘Baazigar’ also in 1993, and ‘Anjaam’ in 1994.

SRK holds the position of co-chairman of the motion picture production company, Red Chillies Entertainment and its subsidiaries. He is also co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders. In 2007, he made his debut as a television anchor, with the Star Plus show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.

The superstar is often labelled by the media as ‘Brand SRK’ because of his many brand endorsements and entrepreneurship ventures.
