Shaan, Shekhar, Neeti pay tribute to Kishore Kumar on birth anniversary


Popular contemporary musicians Shaan, Shekhar Ravjiani and Neeti Mohan paid tribute to legendary singer Kishore Kumar on the occasion of his 87th birth anniversary which falls on Thursday, and said he was an inspiration to all.

The trio, who are mentors on the ongoing kids singing talent show ‘The Voice India Kids’ marked the occasion by singing some popular Kishore Kumar songs and playing ‘Antakshari’ with the contestants.

Shaan said that he had grown up listening to Kishore Kumar’s songs and added, “He was and is an inspiration for youngsters who dream of making a career in the music industry.”

Shekhar echoced Shaan and said that Kishore is a legend and is an inspiration for all. His songs are timeless and are still being sung by this generation and will continue to amaze the generations to come, the singer-composer added.

“It’s wonderful to share Kishoreji’s songs with the children as it is important for them not only to sing today’s songs but also remember all-time classics as well. It was a joyous experience to play Antakshari with all,” Neeti said in a statement.

They were joined by Kishore Da’s son Amit Kumar. “All these kids are brilliant and I am amazed at their talent. At their age, they are so smart and good with their singing. My only advice for them is to keep practicing and they will reach where they want to,” Amit said.

Kishore Kumar was born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly on August 4, 1929. He is known for his magical melodies and beautiful compositions from the golden era, besides being an actor par excellence as well as a filmmaker. Kishore Kumar has eight Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer to his credit and holds the record for winning the most Filmfare Awards in that category.

He passed away on October 13, 1987 in Mumbai at the age of 58 following a cardiac arrest.
