Sanjay Dutt allows home-made food but no cigarettes
Amid media glare and tight security, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt surrendered today before the special TADA court. He was accompanied by his wife Manyata, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and his two sisters Priya and Namrata. Early morning, prayers and havans were performed at his residence. As Sanjay left his house, his fans gathered in large numbers to bid good-bye to their Munnaibhai. Sanjay has to serve the remaining three and half years of jail term and keeping in record the health condition of Sanjay Dutt, his lawyer Rizwan Merchant moved an application, seeking facilities to Dutt in jail including home-made food, pillow, undergarments and electronic cigarettes.
“The actor suffers from high cholesterol and arterial stenosis. He needs medication and thin mattress to sleep on,” said the lawyer. On the demand for electronic cigarettes, counsel said, “Dutt is a chain smoker and the practice will be stopped inside the jail. But he will face withdrawal symptoms like migraine and hence he may be allowed electronic cigarettes, which have 15 per cent less nicotine.”
Agreeing Sanjay’s demand, the judge has allowed the actor home cooked food for a month but after that he would have to see foods served in jail. He is allowed bedding and other materials but no cigarettes.
The judge, however, told the actor: “I am allowing you everything, but not cigarettes. You stop it,” Dutt accepted the order of the judge calmly.
Late night, Dutt and four other convicts will be shifted from Aurthur Jail to Yerwada jail, Pune.
Sanjay Dutt’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant informed the judge of the special TDAD court GA Sanap that they would soon file a 'curative petition in the apex court’.
Sanjay reached the TADA court before 4pm and due to the rush and crowd, he was not able to get out of the vehicle for 15 minutes. When he appeared before the Sanap, he informed that he had suffered injuries in the brawl and due to the pushing he is experiencing chest pain.
Sanjay Dutt is held in the 1993 Mumbai blast case
which killed many people and injured several others. He is found guilty of possessing
illegal weapons and an AK-56 rifle that has been used to engineer the incident.
