Salman Khan tags AR Rahman as ‘average’
Salman Khan has reportedly become the centre of a controversy by calling the Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman ‘average’ at an event meant to launch a music album. The album is a joint effort between composer AR Rahman and Kapil Sibal Union Home Minister of Law and Justice and Communications and Information and Technology. Sibal has penned the lyrics while Rahman has done the music of the album titled ‘Raunaq’.
Rahman was quoted by a daily saying, “I think we all need change, I have worked with veteran lyricists like Javed (Akhtar) sahab, Gulzar sahab, Majnu Sultanpuri, and when I came across Sibal sahab’s lyrics I thought they were simple yet appealing. They had something to say about life,” says Rahman.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was the special guest at the event.
Reportedly the event got delayed since Salman arrived late at the event. And when he took the stage, Salman Khan started off by praising Kapil Sibal. He said, “Kapil sir is a great lyricist.” But his next words that followed were not imagined by anyone. He said AR Rahman was an average musician.
Salman said, “Aap sabhi ko toh maloom hai Rahman bade average hain. What is common between us is ‘Jai Ho’.” (You all know what an average artist Rahman is. Right?)
Reports in the media said that close to the release of Salman’s last film ‘Jai Ho’, which hit cinemas on January 24, a controversy had erupted over the title of the film’s name. Reportedly Rahman’s legal team had sent a notice about it to the movies’s producer Sohail Khan.
The past disagreement over the ‘Jai Ho’ title may have prompted Salman to be rude with Rahman on stage.
After naming the singers the composer has worked with in the album, Salman asked the musical maestro, “Hamare saath kab kaam karogey (When will you work with us)?”
Reportedly the composer replied saying, “We did work together on ‘Yuvvraj’. He has to do films that I like. There has to be an extraordinary film for us to come together.”
Salman is a producer, television anchor, and philanthropist. He is the son of actor and screenwriter Salim Khan.
The superstar began his acting career with ‘Biwi Ho To Aisi’, but it was his second film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ where his performance in the lead role got him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
