Salman Khan accompanied by sisters in court
Last Friday was a crucial day for Salman Khan as sessions court was to frame charges on the actor. The actor was being tried under Hit and Run case of 2002. He arrived in court on Friday accompanied by his sisters Alvira and Arpita.
Both the sisters looked sad. They did not talk to media and after the court session got over, they came out and quietly went away in a car. Both the sisters had worn long salwar kameez. While Arpita was dressed in an anarkali suit, Alvira was wearing a plain checks long kurta and leggings. Salman was wearing a full sleeved blue shirt.
If Salman is convicted under the said charge, he will have to face an imprisonment of up to 10 years.
In the court, the judge extended the date of hearing to 24th July.
This case dates back to 2002. On September 28th, 2002, during the wee hours of the night, Salman Khan drove his land cruiser over workers sleeping on the pavement near Bandra. One died and four were severely injured. Salman Khan was accompanied by his body guard who was a police constable and he urged the actor to drive slowly. But Salman did not pay heed to him. Salman was drunk and hence could not gauge the high speed of his vehicle.
Earlier, Salman was tried for a lesser charge of rash and negligent driving. But, when the NGOs and prosecution demanded further probe, he was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder charges.
In the mean while, this case has taken many turns. The main eye witness, police constable died due to deteriorating health. Since, he was the main witness, the case came to a stalemate. Then again some other witnesses came forward and the case proceeded.
An NGO had also requested their lawyer’s presence during the court proceedings from the prosecution side. That lawyer demanded that the actor should be present in the court for all his hearings and court agreed. Since then, Salman has been coming for all his court hearings despite his busy schedule.Meanwhile, Salman Khan launched a website detailing all information about his cases till now. The home page of the website has few statements by the actor. It says, “Certain court cases are filed against me. There is widespread media reporting of these cases. The reports are sometimes inaccurate and misleading, and cause damage to my reputation, both personal and professional. I have been advised to put up this website to provide easy accessible information about the ongoing status of these cases. I encourage all those interested in knowing about the cases, particularly the media, to verify facts available on this site.”
