Saif Ali Khan had recently turned down an opportunity to work with acclaimed director Mani Ratnam in his film Guru, as he did not have any available dates to give. The film Guru was earlier on supposed to be done by Vivek Oberoi. He later refused to do the film as the lead pair of the film would be ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai and her current beau Abhishek Bachchan. The film was then offered to John Abraham who also turned it down citing date problems. Mani Ratnam then approached Saif for this role opposite actress Vidya Balan. According to sources, Saif turned down the role, as he did not want to play the second fiddle to Abhishek Bachchan. However, Saif says, “How can I turn down Mani Ratnam unless I’m compelled to? I would give anything to be part of Mani’s project. But I already have Siddharth Anand’s film and my world tour lined up during the time that I was supposed to allot to Mani. I went through an agonizing time trying to sort out my dates, but finally I had no choice but to pass up Guru.”
Saif Ali Khan is also doing Vishal Bharadwaj’s film ‘Omkara’ for which he had shaved his head. And he will soon be seen again in a film with ‘Salaam Namaste’ director Siddharth Anand alongside actress Rani Mukherjee.
