Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore to star in Eklavya
Kalpana Lajmi was the first to attempt and fail. Many a filmmakers made their rounds, but didn’t succeed. Mahesh Manjarekar was the latest to join the club of filmmakers who failed to accomplish the task. And the task? Signing in the mother – son duo of the reigning ‘Nawab’ of bollywood Saif Ali Khan and the graceful dimpled actress of yesteryears Sharmila Tagore.
But everything that begins has an end. Persistence always pays, sooner or later, no one knows. So kudos to veteran filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has finally managed to bring in together Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore for his latest film Eklavya starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and many more.
Saif Ali Khan was very much a part of the film from the very beginning, but the fact that even Sharmila Tagore acted in the film, was kept a secret. Very apparently, the filmmaker wanted to give a pleasant surprise to the cine goers, and surely he has managed to surprise everyone and break hearts of a few. Mahesh Manjarekar is one filmmaker who sincerely tried to rope in Saif for his film ‘Virudh’ to play Sharmila Tagore and Amitabh Bachchan’s son. But as luck had it all, Saif could not allot the required dates, and hence the deal never took place. Finally, it was John, another dimpled actor, who played the part. If not anything, his dimples helped him look convincing as Sharmila Tagore’s son, whose dimples are her trademark.
Dimples and more dimples, all for the Tagores nee Khans, as Eklavya is set to release in the second quarter of next year, 2006.
