Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra to star in a film based on Soccer

Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra will be starring together in a UTV produced film, which is set against a backdrop of soccer. This film, which has soccer as its setting seeks to capture the triumphant human spirit and will be directed by Vivek Agnihotri. The entire film will be shot in Europe during the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Vice President of UTV, Ram Mirchandani confirms saying “The film is definitely happening. It will have a big star cast, which we are in the process of finalizing. We are confident that it is going to be a trend setting film. It will be the cult film of 2007.” In the film, Saif Ali will be seen playing the role of a soccer player. He undergoes many obstacles involving locker room politics. But gradually he emerges as a triumphant and better human being. Priyanka will be playing his love interest in the film. However, Mirchandani claims, “We need some more time before zeroing in on the cast. It’s a little premature to talk about this yet.”

However, Priyanka’s secretary Chand Mishra says, “She has been in talks with UTV for a while now and she is quite keen to do this film. However, at present she is in Malaysia, shooting for Farhan Akhtar’s Don, and we will only know the status when she gets back.” This is a unique idea and is the first time that a film will be based on football. The sport has a mass appeal, particularly in western countries. The production house intends to hire premiere coaches to give the actors an inkling of the technicalities and lifestyle of a soccer player.

The film is not particularly based on the lifestyle of any one soccer legend. Mirchandani says, “It’s an original and novel idea which has not been lifted from anywhere. The scriptwriters Vikram Motwani and Anurag Kashayp have done an excellent job. The only inspiration has been taken from the mass hysteria that football generates worldwide.”

After playing a cartoonist in Hum Tum, a chef in Salaam Namaste, looks like Saif is now gearing up to play a football hero. Indeed an interesting array of characters the ‘kool Khan’ has managed to portray so far. This one definitely sounds like an interesting film and role. Let’s wait and watch how this one turns out.
