‘Rustom’ trailer: Akshay is brilliant as Naval officer, but is he patriot or traitor?
The trailer of Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Rustom’ was released today, June 30 it looks brilliant. The ‘Airlift’ actor will be seen in the role of Naval Commander Rustom Pavri in the movie based on true events.
Akshay, who unveiled the first poster of the film three days ago, took to Twitter to share the link of the trailer with the caption, “Patriot? Traitor? Murderer? Run up to the judgement day begins.#RustomTrailer : http://bit.ly/RustomMovieTrailer … @Rustom_Film.”
The three-minute trailer opens in 1959 Bombay and gives a glimpse into the life of the Naval officer who is a devoted patriot. But he turns into an unsympathetic lover when he discovers his wife with her lover and kills him. In course of the trial, Rustom pleads not guilty, while people against him say it is a pre-determined murder and want him to be hanged. His wife stands by him. There is politics, blackmail and race amongst media to publish the big news.
The “sensational case led to the end of the jury system in India.” Is Rustom a patriot or a traitor, the trailer questions. The film comes with the tagline, ‘3 shots that shocked the nation’.
The film is based on the true incident of the infamous Nanavati case of 1959 in which Naval Commander Kawas Manekshaw Nanavati was charged with the murder of his wife’s lover Prem Ahuja and tried in court.
Ilena D’cruz plays the role of Akshay’s wife while Esha Gupta and Arjan Bajwa are also seen in the film.
Although Akshay has donned the uniformed look earlier in ‘Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty’ and an Army officer and in ‘Andaaz’ as and Air Force officer, he will be seen in the garb of a Naval officer for the first time. The film also brings together Akshay with his ‘Baby’ director Neeraj Pandey who is producing the film. It is directed by debutant Tinu Suresh Desai.
‘Rustom’ is slated to hit theatres on August 12.
