Remembering the original superstar Rajesh Khanna!

Rajesh Khanna the enigmatic actor and the first ever superstar of Bollywood town passed away today. The actor was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai for treatment of severe exhaustion. Few tests were carried out on him and he was released from the hospital, only yesterday. Kaka, as the actor is affectionately called in Bollywood was 69 years of age. A huge crowd of fans gathered in front of his home 'Aashirwad' on Carter Road, in the Bandra area of Mumbai as the sad news of demise broke out in the media.

He is succeeded by wife Dimple Kapadia and their two daughters Twinkle and Rinke. The eminent star Akshay Kumar is married to his elder daughter Twinkle Khanna. According to the forthcoming information from the family sources, the funeral for the actor will be held at 11am on Thursday. The actor was keeping frequently ill in the past one year and the news didn’t come as shock for those who were aware of his health conditions. He was admitted to the hospital multiple times during this period.

Kaka was born on 29th December 1942 and was named Jatin Khanna. He was raised by the relatives of his biological parents. It was only before joining the film industry that he changed his name to Rajesh Khanna. Acting was always his most favorite thing to do in the world. He wished to join the glamorous world of Bollywood. He earned his chance as the winner of the 1965, All India Talent Contest competition. The event was organized by United Producers and Filmfare. He won amongst 10,000 contestants and as an award got the lead role in the Chetan Anand directed movie ‘Aakhri Khat’. The movie released in 1966.

There was no looking back after this. His rise to stardom was meteoritic. He gave one after another hit films such as 'Anand', Dushman’, ‘Amar Prem’, ‘Bawarchi’, ‘Daag’, ‘Avishkar’, ‘Namak Haram’ and ‘Aap Ki Kasam’(only to name a few).

The personal life of the actor was larger than life as well. He was in steady relationship with the designer cum actress Anju Mahendroo for 7 years. The break up was bitter. Then he married Dimple Kapadia who was 15 years younger to him. They soon separated but never completed the divorce procedure. In the 80’s decade Tina Munim and Rajesh Khanna were in a love relation.

The colors of Bollywood have faded with the departure of Rajesh Khanna but the show will go on and his memories will live.
