Rekha to clash with Shahrukh Khan at the box office
Rekha is one of the most popular Bollywood divas of all time and she is all set to make a comeback of sorts with the film ‘Super Nani’. But more than the film itself, its release date has made more news after being announced. Through an official press statement it has been announced that the film will release on Diwali, October 24th. This means it will clash at the box office with Shahrukh Khan’s anticipated film ‘Happy New Year’. Smaller films often adjust their release dates to avoid clashing with big releases but so far ‘Super Nani’ has not hinted at any such moves.
‘Super Nani’ is an important film for the fact that it is Rekha’s first mainstream ventures in a long time. The film also stars Sharman Joshi, Anupam Kher, Randhir Kapoor and Shweta Kumar. Rekha plays the role of Bharti Bhatia and Sharman will portray the role of her grandson. The film sends a message to women about their inner powers. The film has been produced and directed by Indra Kumar. But the main question is whether it was a wise decision to release the on the same date with the SRK starrer magnum opus ‘Happy New Year’. Only time can answer the question.
Meanwhile, the trailer of ‘Happy New Year’ has been released and has received mixed response. The Bollywood fraternity has praised the trailer. From Amitabh Bachchan to Karan Johar to Sonam Kapoor – all have tweeted praising the trailer. But the response among critics and general audience has been colder. In one week the trailer has managed only around 2.5 million hits. It is disappointing considering the buzz before the release of the trailer. It is perhaps the longest trailer of recent times. But too much singing and dancing may have turned off the audience a bit.
In comparison, the response to ‘Bang Bang’ and ‘Kick’ was much better. However, the makers seem happy with the response. Farah Khan has said, “We were excited and we were looking forward to presenting it, because we have been working really hard, not only on the film, but also on the trailer. We are just overwhelmed with the response that we have got from the people.”To ensure a good impact, the trailer was released across all digital available platforms. The CEO of Red Chillies Entertainment, Mr Venky Mysore said, “In keeping with the tradition of innovation established by Red Chillies, we were delighted to launch the trailer of HNY for the first time across multiple platforms. This was also done to meet the demands of fans who are consuming talent in ways that suit them. This has given the trailer an unprecedented footprint and delighted the fans.”
