RekhaBollywood star Rekha, who mesmerised cinegoers for decades with her powerful performances and timeless beauty, turned 50 on Sunday, October 10.
Born in 1954 to cinestars Gemini Ganesan and Pushpavalli, Rekha with husky voice and acting prowess to match, went on to become the country's leading heroine with her roles in blockbuster films like Silsila, Khoobsurat and Umrao Jaan.

Her versatility as an actress spanned across genres, be it as a bubbling nubile young girl trying to add some fun in a house run by a dictatorial matriarch in Khoobsurat, or as a young wife still being enveloped in the romance of her first love in Silsila.

Rekha as a courtesan in Muzaffar Ali's Umrao Jaan quintessentially describes the ethereal beauty that continues to arrest the attention of admirers cutting across generations.

"Rekha can never be perceived as 50. She will always remain younger," according to Indian Censor Board chief Anupam Kher.

"She has always been one who has defied the theory of age and can be compared to Hollywood stars," he said.

Her chiselled face and exuberance set the marquis ablaze, when coupled with the 'angry young man' histrionics of super star Amitabh Bachchan.

Bollywood Mantra wishes the superstar a very happy 50th Birthday.
