Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone won't face arrest
While the tremendous critical and commercial success of ‘Ram-Leela’ has made the key people involved with film very happy, namely the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and lead pair Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. They were also constantly bugged by the fact that they had criminal cases pending over them because of the film. In November last year lawyer Sudhir Kumar Ojha had filed case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code against the producers/ directors/ actors/ lyricists of the film ‘Ram-Leela’.He lodged the case on the ground that some scenes in the movie were insulting to the religious sentiment of the Hindus. The film was released as per schedule and became a big hit. But later, Chief Judicial Magistrate SP Singh in Muzaffarpur, Bihar had cognized Sudhir Kumar Ojha’s case and had ordered the director and actors to appear. But since they did not appeared in court, arrest warrants were issued against them from the local court. The orders were then passed to the Commissioner of police in Mumbai to carry out the arrests and produce them in court on 4th June. Another similar case was lodged by Sudhir against them in a court in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
But in a development that should make the stars very happy, Allahabad High Court has issued stay order on their arrest regarding the cases lodged by Sudhir Kumar Ojha. A division bench of Justice Shashi Kant and Justice Arun Tandon has passed the order. However it must be remembered that the order is temporary and the cases are not yet closed. Therefore the stars should not take the matter lightly.
It is worth remembering that the release of the film
‘Ram-Leela’ was banned for a while in Madhya Pradesh thanks to a High court
order. But later the court lifted the ban and the film got released on November
12 in Madhya Pradesh. One of the main points of debate was the title of the
film. Those who protested against its release felt that the title ’Ram-Leela’
will mislead people into believing that the film is based on the life of Lord
Ram. The film contained some elements of violence and sex that was also deemed
offensive judging by the title. However in reality, ‘Ram’ and ‘Leela’ are just
the name of the lead characters in the film. Nonetheless to avoid controversy
the title was modified and made ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela- Ram Leela’.
