Rani to play Begum Samru in Tigmanshu Dhulia's next

Tigmanshu Dhulia has impressed one and all with his last offering ‘Paan Singh Tomar’. From critics to audience applauded his biopic. Now, he is moving on with his next project which is a periodic film based on the life of Begum Joanna Nobilis Sombre aka Begum Samru. The director wants Rani Mukherjee to play the influential character.

Begam Samru was a nautch girl of the 18th century India but later became an influential figure on the political canvas of the 18th and 19th century India. Begum Samru is a strong and powerful woman. She married a European and became the ruler of a principality near Meerut.

Tigmanshu Dhulia has written the script on keeping Rani Mukherjee in mind. He went up to Rani with his script and impressed by his last work and his new script, Rani gave her nod.

“Last week Tigmanshu had a long meeting with Rani at her office in Juhu. She loved the role and agreed in principle,” a source told.

Tigmanshu has directed films like Haasil, Charas, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and more recently Paan Singh Tomar. Rani loved his style of work. “Rani loves Tigmanshu's style of filmmaking. He is soon going to go for a recce,” added the source.
