Rani Mukherjee on films, family, friends, marriage, kids and Baabul

Rani Mukherjee is one of the finest actors in bollywood and she has proved this especially with her performance in ‘Black’. Rani too herself is extremely proud of her performance in Black and credits director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for having tremendous faith in her and extracting such a good performance from her. Rani will soon be seen in Ravi Chopra’s ‘Baabul’ and also a Yash Raj film ‘Tara Rum Pum’ .
Rani credits her mother for having faith in her, that she could be a good actress and she is also the one who made Rani believe in herself. Rani claims that even though her father was part of the film industry she was never really exposed on a personal level to the film industry. Rani says “I never thought I had any talent to be in films so it never occurred to me that I could be an actor.” Rani also feels that her toughest phase was when she had just entered the film industry as at first she felt that she did not belong in this industry. Rani was only seventeen years when she did her first film ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’. But after her first film she decided to put her heart and soul into acting. She just did all her roles with a lot of sincerity which finally paid off.

Rani also claims that her family, are her biggest critics and she is always extremely nervous when she views the first screening along with her family. But apart from being honest in their criticism if they genuinely like her performance they are equally lavish in their praise. Rani claims that she has several genuine friends in the film industry like Karan Johar, Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Anil Kapoor and his wife who have also been there for her right from the start. She is sure that in the future too they will always be there for her irrespective of success or failure. Rani is extremely close to her sister-in-law Jyoti and they share a special bond, she is also ecstatic with the new arrival of her niece whom she adores. Rani loves her niece so much that she says “I can give my life for her when she smiles or laughs.”

Rani definitely wants to get married and have children some day but she feels that she can never give up acting completely as acting is within her. Rani loves babies and feels that like most women she too harbors a maternal instinct within her. Rani feels that Madhuri and Sridevi were some of the finest actors and they were simply amazing on screen. Rani claims that acting makes her feel alive and makes her extremely happy. Nonetheless Rani feels that stardom is also a part of being an actor and one should eventually learn to accept it. And being a star means that your personal life, joys and sorrows become public.

Rani also feels that films can bring about a change in society and attitudes of people. She hopes that her next release ‘Baabul’ will bring about a change in the mindset of those people who treat their daughter-in-laws indifferently and she hopes that the film will be able to deliver the social message that they have set out to give. We look forth to Rani’s forthcoming films and her future performances.
