Actress Rani Mukherjee lost the ownership of the plot which she purchased a long time back in 2005. It has been declared in the court that the land is a government property and no one has the right to own it. On March 27, the 11,000 sq ft farmland formally went to the custody of the government. The case was filed in the court when it was known that the land is a government property and not personal.
She purchased the land near Shirdi in Maharasthra in the name of her father Ram Mukherjee. It was a farmland which she purchased way back in 2005. When Rani borrowed the land, she was unaware of the fact that the land is a government property and does not belong to any farmer. Without verifying the fact, she paid Rs 132,000 for the registration. The original owner of the farmland is a farmer who with the permission of the government started reaping in the area in 1981. Looking at the high demand of the land, he sold it to a man by the name Sampat More. Rani purchased the land from him and made a total payment of Rs 33 lakh. However, when the question of legality arose, a case was filed and finally after two years, verdict is announced in favor of government and Rani lost her land.
