Rani Mukherjee looks for her partner on net
The trailer of ‘Aiyaa’ looks refreshing. No wonder Rani Mukerji looks stunning but it is southern superstar Prithviraj who grabs the attention. Wearing goggles in the song sequences, Prithviraj Sukumaran looks like the typical south Indian hero.
Reportedly it is being said that Rani went out for collecting information, whether Prithviraj is a bankable actor or not. She searched the net for that purpose. Only after looking at an interview of his, she was convinced that he was the perfect person for the role.
The movie is said to be inspired by director Sachin Kundalkar’s short film ‘Gandha’ (fragrance). However it was filmmaker Anurag Kashyap who had the first idea of making it into a movie. Speaking on that Anurag said, “I used to do a play 'S-S-Sarla' with Sonali Kulkarni and she called me once to show a short film by Sachin Kundalkar and I met him there for the first time. I liked it so much that I said this should be made into a whole feature film.”
Rani plays the role of a Marathi girl, who likes men because of their smell. Feels awkward, but that’s what Sachin wanted to show in his film. Speaking to TOI he had said, “I like Bollywood films but I am saturated with the Punjabi culture. I feel every regional sensibility has to be represented and in that respect Mani Ratnam is my idol. He brought in the South sensibilities and since I am a Maharashtrian I am bringing in mine. ”
Meenakshi Deshpande (the character played by Rani Mukerji) is a woman obsessed with Bollywood. She lives in a fantasy world of her own, where she imagines herself to be Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit or Juhi Chawla. She meets many guys for her marriage but is ultimately smitten by Surya (Played by Prithviraj), a Tamil guy. Speaking about the character Rani said, “She is completely mad and very filmy woman.” She further added, “My character is a huge fan of Sridevi, Juhi and Madhuri. She dreams about them and goes into a fantasy world all the time.”
The movie is a welcome relief for Rani, as she would be seen in a comedy role after a long time. She played the role of a reporter in ‘No One Killed Jessica’, and is again going to be in a serious role in ‘Talaash’.
