Rani, Jaya and Konkana to play leading ladies in Yash Raj Film
Yash Raj Films is producing Tara Rum Pum with Rani and Saif Ali Khan and were recently in New York shooting for the film. However Aditya Chopra has already decided the script of his next film which will obviously once again star Rani Mukherjee in one of the lead roles. The rest of the cast and crew too have been decided for this untitled venture. Yash Raj has decided to rope in Parineeta director Pradeep Sarkar to direct this film and it will star Rani, Jaya Bachchan and Konkana Sen Sharma as the leading ladies. The male star cast will include Abhishek Bachchan, Kunal Kapoor and Anupam Kher. With such a promising cast the film is bound to receive a lot of attention and there will also be high expectations.
Director Pradeep Sarkar received much appreciation for his classic film Parineeta, but this time the film will not be a classic adaptation. In the film Anupam Kher and Jaya Bachchan will play the parents of two daughters to be enacted by Rani and Konkana. Abhishek will star opposite Rani and Kunal will be paired opposite Konkana. The film will be shot in Varanasi in India. This is the first time that Konkana Sen Sharma will be working with the prestigious Yash Raj banner. However earlier this role was first offered to Vidya Balan who turned down the role as she did not want to play second fiddle to Rani. However actress Rani will have to work twice as hard so as not to be upstaged by Konkana who managed to overshadow Kareena Kapoor’s lead performance even in her relatively smaller role in Omkara. Kunal Kapoor too will be seen after a long hiatus after his successful role in Rang De Basanti.
According to sources “The film will be centered on the female protagonists while the male leads will lend a supporting role.” Abhishek and Rani already share a great chemistry on-screen and now it remains to be seen if Konkana and Kunal will also be able to generate that on-screen magic. Jaya Bachchan too will be seen alongside her real life son Abhishek for the first time in a film. This will be Konkana and Jaya’s second film together after Rituparno Ghosh’s Sunglass.
