Rani is still Mukherjee, not Chopra
After her almost secret marriage with producer Aditya Chopra in Italy last April, Rani Mukerji is getting ready to be back in the limelight. The poster of her upcoming film ‘Mardaani’ has been released and mentions her as Rani ‘Mukerji’. There was lot of speculation in the industry and the media about whether Rani would be adopting the ‘Chopra’ surname, now that she is officially married to the Chopra scion. But as of now it looks like she will be retaining her maiden title for a while. The poster itself has made quite a splash as it portrays Rani in a never before seen bold avatar. The poster carries the tagline- ‘Every War is Personal’.
In the poster, Rani has a stern look in her face and a gun in her hand. She is looking quite imposing in black kurta and jeans while in the background a beaten up, bloody man is seen. It is going to be a raw and gritty film unlike anything usually seen from the YRF banner and Rani. She plays the character of Shivani Shivaji Roy, an officer of the Mumbai Crime Branch. Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta will be playing her love interest. Everything about the film is being closely guarded especially its subject matter as it is going to be somewhat controversial. To research and prepare for the role, Rani visited the chief of Mumbai Crime Branch. The director of the film ‘Mardaani’ is Pradeep Sarkar of ‘Parineeta’ fame and the music director is Shantanu Moitra. The film is set to release in August 2014.
Rani was last seen in a short role in the critically acclaimed anthology film ‘Bombay Talkies’. Her performance was praised by critics. Her last role in a major film was in 2012’s ‘Talaash: The Answer Lies Within’ opposite Aamir Khan. Her last film under the YRF banner was ‘Dil Bole Hadippa!’ in 2009 which failed at the box office. Rani is also slated to make an appearance in another Yashraj production, ‘Kill Dil’. Along with her impressive film resume, her personal life has also been under the spotlight again and again. For several years it was assumed that she is in a relationship with producer Aditya Chopra. However, both of them had denied to speak about it in public. Finally after years of speculation, she married Chopra in a small private ceremony in Italy on 21st April, 2014. Later Rani posted the news in Twitter
