Aamir KhanWay back in January, this writer broke the news of AKS director Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra [a 'y' has been added to his name after his sister suggested it for numerological reasons!] approaching Aamir Khan for his new film. “We're still in the preliminary stages of discussions. I haven't received any confirmation from his side as yet. A clearer picture will emerge only by this month-end,” Mehra had stated then...
Well, Aamir has given his approval to Mehra's project. “Yes, Aamir is doing the film,” Mehra revealed to this writer in an exclusive chat, adding in the same breath, “The film will be made in two languages simultaneously - Hindi and English. The moment a scene for the Hindi version is okayed, we'll film the English one pronto. Also, both the versions will be released simultaneously worldwide.”

While the Hindi venture is titled RANG DE BASANTI, the English title will be PAINT IT YELLOW. Is it a patriotic film - at least that's the impression you get after you learn what the titles are? “Not at all,” Mehra clarifies, “It's a contemporary film, set in today's times.”

Mehra has also finalized a few more names for the project[s] - Kunal [who stars opposite Tabu in MEENAXI], Atul Kulkarni and Om Puri. “We've to finalise one more hero and two leading ladies. The leading ladies have very strong roles, they're not mere decorative pieces in the film[s],” Mehra divulges.

Produced by Mehra himself, P. Angad Paul and Nilesh Dadhich [M.P.D. Films], the film[s] will have music by A.R. Rahman. “We've haven't recorded the songs yet. Rahman is still working on it and will surprise me with the tunes one of these days,” Mehra smiles.

The film[s] will be shot in one schedule, from October 2004 to February-end 2005.
