Ranbir Kapoor to essay his illustrious grandfather Raj Kapoor in biopic

Ranbir Kapoor, who has been signed on to play Sanjay Dutt’s character in the latter’s biopic, might also recreate the life of his grandfather, the legendary Raj Kapoor, on the silver screen.

Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor have been keen on making a biopic on Raj Kapoor’s life and have decided to cast the ‘Tamasha’ actor in the role of their illustrious father, according to a report in Deccan Chronicle.

“It is the Kapoor khandaan’s most cherished dream project. They’ve wanted to make a biopic on Raj saab for the longest time. Until Ranbir became an actor they couldn’t think of anyone who could fit the bill. Now the project is finally gaining shape,” the report quoted a source very close to the Kapoor family as saying.

Ranbir has always been fascinated with Raj Kapoor and has seen all his work and so the Kapoor brothers feel that he is the best person for the role. “The brothers, Rishi and Randhir, are in agreement. They feel Ranbir is the best person to play Raj saab,” the source revealed.

The film will be produced under their home banner RK Films. Reportedly, Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor want to revive the production house founded by Raj Kapoor in 1948, with the biopic. RK Films has been dormant for years now.

The last film under the RK Films banner was ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’ in 1999 and now the Kapoor family aim to revive it with their dream project.
