Ranbir, Ranveer are the next superstars, Akshay Kumar
When asked why there wasn’t a single superstar in the new group of actors, Akshay Kumar, who was present at the trailer launch of his upcoming production, ‘Fugly’ said that the fresh breed actors of today are, in fact, talented artistes.
Akshay was quoted in the media as saying, “I think Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and others are doing well. In my eyes, they are the next superstars.” He also felt that the newcomers of today did not need the support of superstars like him to get into the industry.
“When we came as newcomers we needed support but today’s newcomers don’t need it, they are fit, good, mentally balanced, and professionally better than us. They know what they want or don’t want,” he said.
“The way they are going is good. There is no need to teach them, they have knowledge about everything. I think they need support of their family (than us),” he added.
In ‘Fugly’, the Bollywood star is launching newcomers, including Olympic champion boxer Vijender Singh and Anil Kapoor’s nephew, Mohit Marwah.
Replying to whether he had taken a risk by casting newcomers in his upcoming production venture, Akshay said, “…in every film there is a risk whether I act in films or the films that I produce. I am confident about the film.”
‘Fugly’ is an upcoming movie that is being directed by Kabir Sadanand. The movie features Jimmy Shergill, Mohit Marwah, Vijender Singh, Kiara Advani and Arfi Lamba among others. And Akshay and Salman Khan have guest appearances, too. The movie is produced by Akshay’s Grazing Goat Productions.
The 46-year-old actor has appeared in over 125 films. When he began his acting career in the 1990s, he mainly starred in action movies and was known for his appearances in films commonly known as the ‘Khiladi series’.
Later he also became known for his drama, romance and comic roles for his performances in such films as ‘Yeh Dillagi’ in 1994, ‘Dhadkan’ in 2000, ‘Hera Pheri’ in 2000, ‘Awara Paagal Deewana’ in 2002, ‘Andaaz’ in 2003 to name just a few.
Besides acting, Akshay has worked as a stunt actor and has often performed in dangerous stunts in his films, which has made him famous as the ‘Indian Jackie Chan’.
