Ranbir, Anurag, Karan Johar at ‘Bombay Velvet’ wrap-up party

Bombay Velvet’ is an upcoming film directed and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap. It is based on historian Gyan Prakash’s book Mumbai Fables, a story of how the city of Mumbai became a metropolis against the backdrop of love, greed, violence and jazz music. ‘Bombay Velvet’ is the story of an ordinary man who goes against all odds and creates his destiny to become a name.

The film is about jazz clubs, a passionate love story, a growing metropolis and a hunger for a good life.

The movie features Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles while Karan Johar plays the primary antagonist.

Besides Ranbir, Anushka and Karan the cast includes Raveena Tandon, Kay Kay Menon and Siddharth Basu.

The director was inspired to do a film after reading the L A Quartet, a sequence of four crime fiction novels by James Ellroy, set in the late 1940s through the late 1950s in Los Angeles. The stories inspired him to dig into the dark trenches of the history of Bombay, and found a treasure trove.

According to earlier reports, Anurag Kashyap directed ‘Bombay Velvet’ starring Ranbir Kapoor was to have a box-office clash with superstar Aamir Khan’s ‘P.K.’ around Christmas.

But now, ‘Bombay Velvet’ is scheduled to release on November 28, and Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘P.K.’ will hit theatres on December 19.

“I think it is correct release date as we will get more theatres. We don't want to clash with another film as it affects the business of a film. It is the best film. And we hope audience will like the film,” Ranbir was quoted saying at the wrap up party of ‘Bombay Velvet’.

“Anurag has made this film with lot of hard work and love. It has been a dream of Anurag for nine years. We hope wider audience sees this film as it is an entertaining and engaging film,” Ranbir added.

Reports said the entire team of boys associated with ‘Bombay Velvet’, including Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap were seen having some fun time at the film’s wrap up party in Mumbai on Wednesday.
