Court orders removal of ‘Ram-Leela’ word from the title
In a fresh turn of events, upcoming movie ‘Ram-Leela’ gets a sigh of relief as Delhi court recalls its order relating to the title of the movie. ‘Ram-Leela’ is a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie produced by Eros International Media Limited and Bhansali himself. But trouble seems to be never ending for Bhansali's film, the makers have changed the title from Ramleela to Ram Leela and now it is termed as 'Galiyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela' but still the new name is not accepted by MP court and order the makers to chopped the word Ram-Leela from the title as it hurt religious sentiments.
A Delhi court recalled its order which earlier asked the director and the producer of the movie to change the title of the movie from ‘Ram-Leela’ to something else.
Additional District Judge A.S. Jayachandra of Delhi court recalled Tuesday’s order and said that he committed a mistake by passing the decision on the title of the movie as he was not informed by the counsel for plaintiffs that the Delhi High Court has already refused to put a ban on the release of the movie.
Eros International Media Limited was represented by advocate Amit Sibal. He put the High court order before Delhi court that refused to put a ban on the release of movie. He also produced document that stated that a petitioner (an NGO) was fined Rs. 50000 for moving the plea for banning the movie.
Sibal further told that the title of movie was not only ‘Ram-Leela’ but it was “Ram-leela: Goliyon Ki Rasleela”.
The suit was filed by six petitioners including Prabhu Samaj Dharmik Ram Leela Committee. According to the petitioners the title of the movie was misleading as it had nothing to do with the life of Maryada Purushottam Ram. ‘Ram Leela’ meant enactment of life and story of Shri Ram who is a Hindu God. The movie hurt the sentiments of Hindus, as the movie showed violence, sex and vulgarity.
Earlier also, the film was objected by a Gujarat community of Rajputs. According to them, the movie showed two communities of Gujarat in bad frame. It also said that the two communities have been in constant fight for the last 500 years. According to petitioner Dr. Jayendrasingh Jadeja from Rajput Samaj, “The movie shows Rajputs and Rabari communities having enmity since 500 years. This statement is totally false, wrong and highly objectionable. It is aimed at igniting caste war between two communities which is a serious criminal offence and amounts to arrest under National Security Act. The movie also shows heroin as daughter of Royal Jadeja family romancing with a Rabari Boy which is highly objectionable. It breaches religious faith of 15 crores Rajputs of India.”
