Rajkummar Rao turns transgender for film; Anurag Kashyap wants to date him
Rajkummar Rao is one talented actor and he has proven his mettle time and again with his performances in acclaimed films like ‘Kai Po Che!’, ‘Shahid’ and ‘Aligarh’. The National Award-winning actor will now be seen in the role of a transgender in Bengali film ‘Ami Saira Bano’.
“It’s a story about a boy who is a girl from inside and is drawn towards the transgender community who rechristen him Saira Bano. It was a fascinating story and character and challenged me as an actor,” Rajkummar told Mumbai Mirror.
To prepare for his role, the actor interacted with some transgenders in Kolkata and listened to their stories to bring authenticity to his character. “Some of the stories were really sad but they themselves are chilled out and happy people,” Rajkummar told the daily.
The ‘City Lights’ actor reportedly spent close to two months learning Bengali language for the film. He has also shed weight and shaved off his body hair for the role.
His transgender look from the film in which he is seen dressed in a pink sari with earrings, necklace, nose pin and a bindi on forehead as well, has become the talk of the town.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was bowled over by Rajkummar’s look that he has asked the actor out on a date. The ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ maker tweeted, “This man can do anything. @RajkummarRao you look so beautiful. Can I take you out for a drink??”
Rajkummar also sportingly replied, “Thank you so much sir. Absolutely, whenever you say sir @anuragkashyap72.”
Rajkummar and Anurag have worked together on the latter’s cult hit ‘Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 2’. Both share a good bond and have immense respect for each other.
Previously, actors like Paresh Rawal in ‘Tamanna’ and Prashant Narayanan in ‘Murder 2’ have played transgender characters.
