Rajinikanth’s ‘Kabali’ collects over Rs 35 cr on opening day
Superstar Rajinikanth starrer ‘Kabali’ got off to an "earth shattering-start" at the box office due to the "unprecedented craze" of 'Thalaivar, as noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh said. The highly-anticipated movie has already made a whopping Rs 35 crore and counting, according to analysts.
The final figure has not yet been declared though, but the amount is expected to be huge. The opening day occupancy rates have been in the 80-90% range on average and most cinemas in the south have been running to full houses. In the north it fluctuated from 50-70%.
People from all walks of life queued up to watch the megastar on the big screen with some shows starting as early as 3 AM. Cash registers were ringing non-stop and the advance bookings have also boosted the earnings magnificently. The multi-lingual movie is being played in as many as 12,000 screens across India, the UK and Malaysia, where the movie has been shot.
In the USA, ‘Kabali’ in just one day, has become the highest grossing Tamil film ever, beating Rajanikanth’s 2010 release ‘Enthiran’. With most shows prebooked for the weekend, the film is expected to collect over Rs 120 crore in the first weekend.
Other than the box-office collections, the makers of ‘Kabali’ have also earned profits to the tune of over Rs 200 crore from the huge deals they have struck with corporates and other entities.
‘Kabali’ is a gangster flick directed by Pa Ranjit and stars Rajanikanth as an ageing don works for the benefit of his community. It also stars Radhika Apte as his love interest and Dhansika as daughter.
