Amitabh Bachchan will soon be seen in Ramgopal Varma's film Nishabd and the film is lightly based on the film Lolita. The film revolves around a 60 year old man who falls in love with an 18 year old girl.Amtiabh plays the 60 year old protagonist while newcomer Jiah Khan plays the young 18 year old girl.It is also rumoured that the film has a kissing scene between the two protagonists. However recently there were protests by certion factions against the subject of the film.
There were protests in Jalandhar by the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) who claimed that the film was against Indian culture. A memeber of the party states "Amitabh Bachchan has grand children and he is romancing a young girl in the film that is beyond his dignity and against our social values. The message that the film will convey is contradictory to our society." The party wants the film to be banned. The film also faced aother problem when the Delhi High Court sent a notice to Varma's company for copyright infringement of the title. A Bengali filmmaker Jahar Kanungo approached the court claiming that he had the rights to the title Nishabd for 10 years since his Bengali film of the same title had released in 2005.Hence the filmmaker wanted a stay order put on the release of the film. While Amitabh agrees that the topic in Nishabd is sensitive he claims that the onus was in making something different and pushing the envelope.Amitabh says "It is a tricky subject, more so for an audience which is very traditional and conservative in most parts of India. But we are obviously looking at making films on topics and emotions which are different and have never been put across." But Amitabh also maintains that though they have pushed the envelope in terms of subject, they have not crossed any boundaries.

Recently the Delhi High Court has also refused to put a stay order on the film stating that the filmmaker should have approached the court much earlier instead of just a few days prior to the release of the film. It seems that Ramgopal's film Nishabd has already begun to embrace controversey prior to its release.
