Priyanka Chopra to endorse Banarasi sarees
The textile ministry has roped in Priyanka Chopra as the brand ambassador of Banarasi saree. Priyanka will take the famous Banarasi saree to the international level. The union Textile Secretary Zohra Chatterjee said during her visit to Varanasi. Priyanka Chopra who is well known internationally will soon be promoting the Indian sari on international platforms.
Priyanka in a whole will be promoting Indian handloom industry but Banarasi silk saris would be at the forefront of this branding.
The Union government is keen to promote the ‘desi’ handloom and textile industry in a larger scale and a “detailed publicity campaign is being planned for the same,” a senior bureaucrat told IANS.
The Union government is also planning to open a National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in the temple town after which the products of the weavers in the city would be “integrated and upgraded” with the help of the institute, officials informed.
Prime Minister Modi reportedly has also asked the textile ministry to explore options for early setting up of a trade facilitation centre, officials said.
