Priyanka back home for father's death anniversary
Priyanka Chopra has taken a break from her busy shooting schedule to come to Mumbai on her father’s first death anniversary. The occasion is set to become very memorable for the family as a street near the family’s residence will be named after Priyanka’s father, Late Dr Ashok Chopra. Dr. Chopra died last year after suffering from cancer. The soon to be renamed lane is situated off Yari Road in West Andheri, Mumbai and leads to the building where the actor and her family live. It will now be called Lieutenant Colonel Dr Ashok Chopra Marg. The request for this change of name was made to the authorities by his family and people from the neighborhood.
Official confirmation came from Vishwas Shankarwar, assistant municipal commissioner, K-west ward. He said, "Priyanka Chopra’s family and her residential society’s members approached the local corporator, K-west ward and standing committee chairman, BMC, Yashodhar Phanse. The proposal was then approved by us." Under the provision of Section 327 (1) (a) of the BMC Act, 1888, the Municipal Commissioner, after taking permission from House (Corporation), has the power to name a road/ lane/ gully/chowk after a particular person. The official function will held on Tuesday and the chief guest is Uddhav Thackeray, chief of Shiv Sena.
Priyanka Chopra was busy shooting in Barcelona for Zoya Akhtar’s film 'Dil Dhadakne Do'. But she asked the director Zoya and producer Ritesh Sidhwani for few days leave so that she can attend the occasion. They readily accepted Priyanka’s request and she arrived in Mumbai on Sunday. She will fly back to work shortly after the function. Priyanka’s father Ashok Chopra was a doctor who served in the Indian Army for 27 years and was once head of Surgery at the army hospital in Leh. After retirement he was closely associated with the well known NGO, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA). Priyanka was always a ‘daddy’s girl’ and was devastated after he passed away last year. The spokesperson of the actor has given a statement; “His (Ashok Chopra) years of service as a doctor have garnered deep admiration and respect. It is a big moment for the family." Priyanka’s mother Madhu Chopra expressed her happiness at the honor being bestowed upon her late husband, "It’s a matter of pride and honor for us as a family." Priyanka Chopra herself tweeted, “The home is where the heart is. Good to be in Mumbai. Tizzying hyper emotions…extremes in every way…yet a stillness that’s hard to explain”.
