Preity Zinta’s de-glam role in Deepa Mehta’s Heaven On Earth
It’s Preity Zinta’s turn like many bollywood actresses to go from commercial films to doing qualitative roles. Preity has proved herself as a commercial actress with many bollywood hit films. Now it seems that she has finally decided to plunge into different roles which are qualitative. And whom better to start with than one of the best, Preity will be working with filmmaker Deepa Mehta in Heaven On Earth. Preity will be doing a completely de-glam role in the film for the first time.
Preity has done strong roles earlier, but this time round for Deepa Mehta’s Heaven On earth she will have to completely shed her glamorous avatar. Preity will play a typical de-glam Punjabi woman and the film which is based on the sensitive issue of domestic abuse. So after Ash played the battered Punjabi housewife in Provoked, Preity too will do a film on domestic abuse. Recently Deepa Mehta who lives in Toronto was in Mumbai and had a six hour script reading session with Preity. Mehta chose Preity after she saw her work in the English film The Last Lear. Deepa says “I think Preity is a lovely girl: warm, upfront, ready to learn and willing to make adjustments. She knows the level of discipline required from her and is willing to make every possible effort to fit in."
Preity will attend workshops with Deepa Mehta and her cast prior to starting the film. Mehta further adds “In Heaven On Earth, she'll walk through a door into a room she's never been in before. It's a leap of faith for Preity, and one she's willing to take. Preity is willing to surrender completely to the character.” Supposedly Preity has also agreed to cut down on her remuneration for the film and she will also work opposite an NRI male co-star in the film. A portion of the film is set in Punjab interiors but Deepa will shoot in a more viable city. Preity is currently shooting for Mera Bharat Mahan which also stars Salman Khan.
