Opening ceremony of IPL, a grand affair
The opening ceremony of the Indian Premiere League has always been a grand affair, and this year was no different. Shah Rukh Khan, who had a double role to play, took it upon himself to entertain the audiences. Shah Rukh Khan is the owner of the team Kolkata Knight Riders and his production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, took care of the event.
The opening ceremony of the 6th edition of the Indian Premiere League was held at the Salt lake Stadium in Kolkata. Sameer Kochhar was the host for the evening and he started the event with introducing Navjot Singh Siddhu and Kapil Dev, who will be present throughout the series. Gaurav Kapoor and Karishma Kotak were the other hosts for the evening.
The cheerleaders introduced the participating teams with a montage of placards.
The opening ceremony began with Rabindranath Tagore’s "Aguner poroshmani" playing in the background, the young dancers taking to the arena in ‘Om’ formation while holding aloft torches and Shah Rukh Khan reciting the poetry "where the mind is without fear" with his powerful voice.
It was time for the performances. Deepika Padukone sizzled on screen. She was seen in a metal corset and black leather trousers, and she grooved to her songs from her film ‘Cocktail’. After her performance, came Katrina Kaif. Entering in complete Egyptian regalia, she later changed into a lehenga choli and was seen performing on her hit numbers, ‘Chikni Chameli’ and ‘Mashallah’.
Next up was Shah Rukh Khan, the most awaited performer of the evening. In style, he thanked everyone for their presence and Deepika and Katrina for their wonderful performances. It was an absolute delight to watch him groove on ‘Ladki Badi Anjaani Hai’ from ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Chammak Challo’ from ‘RaOne’. He was joined by Usha Uthup and Bappi Lahiri on stage. The duo sang "ooua ooua tumse hai tumse pyaar", "dum maaro" and Shah Rukh Khan danced in the background.
Next was Pitbull and he enthralled the audiences with his performance. He was so excited about his performance that he even tweeted, “@Pitbull finally my performance in india at #PepsiIPL opening ceremony...daleeeeee!”
After Pitbull’s performance, Shah Rukh Khan was back on the stage with Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif, and together they entertained the crowd once again.
Seen among the audiences were IPL chief Rajeev Shukla and BJP’s Arun Jaitley. The night surely ended in style. The series begins from today.
