No bra, no Savita Bhabi in ‘Baar Baar Dekho’; CBFC snips out both
The makers of Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ aren’t very pleased with the Central Board of Film Certficatio (CBFC). The movie was denied a certification until an ‘offensive shot of a woman’s brasserie’ was removed from it.
Angry over the CBFC’s conduct, a source from the film’s team was quoted by a popular website as saying, “Are we living in the Victorian era when women's innerwear was never spoken of in public? Years ago in 1995 there was a bra shot featuring Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan. And ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ is directed by a woman (Nitya Mehra). To assume she’d use the lingerie scene for titillation is absurd.”
The censor board also demanded deletion of a naughty reference to 'Savita Bhabhi', the comic book porn character whose sexual exploits are devoured on the internet by millions of her fans. The source added, "The CBFC asked the producers of ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ to delete a reference to Savita Bhabhi. The name is used in a light-hearted manner in the film. If a porn reference is objectionable then how come Sunny Leone's name was used A Flying Jatt?"
"'Freaky Ali', which opens along with Baar Ba'ar Dekho', features Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a salesperson for men’s lingerie. Are we to presume that it’s okay to show men’s underwear? But not okay to show women’s lingerie?” the source questioned.
‘Baar Baar Dekho’ has now been granted a 'UA' certificate, after the makers of the film complied with the CBFC’s demands of snipping the bra visual and 'Savita Bhabhi' reference.
The romantic drama which marks the directorial debut of Nitya Mehra, has been co-produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment. The movie is set to release on September 9.
