Nimrat Kaur of ‘The Lunch Box’ to star in ‘Homeland’
After wowing audiences in the critically acclaimed film ‘The Lunch Box’, actress Mimrat Kaur will now have the chance to impress even more viewers internationally. Nimrat has been chosen to play a part in the popular award winning American TV series ‘Homeland’ in its fourth season on TV.
The show is a political thriller and the 32 years old actress will be seen playing a high level operative of Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence). It is in sharp contrast with her role as the neglected housewife in ‘The Lunch Box’. This is Nimrat’s first ever international project and she is happy that it is such a well known show.
However she has confessed that she was not a viewer of the show before. She watched the show’s pilot episode after giving the screen test for her role. Nimrat Kaur is currently in Capetown, South Africa to shoot for the show. Yesterday she posted on Twitter, "Pretty fun for someone who watched the pilot after the screen test! Season 4 Homeland it is." Later she also posted a photo of her luggage after arrival. The photo shows a welcome sign for the actress placed amidst her luggage. With the photo Nimrat wrote the caption, "More than just a sign? #Homeland #Season4 #CapeTown #DreamTeam #latergram."
Nimrat was in London in June and it is there where she came across the opportunity to act in the show. In an interview with the media, she said, "It was my first time in London and I heard that there were auditions going on for Homeland close to where I was staying. I hadn't seen the show but decided to give it a shot anyway."
After the audition, she was confirmed within a week.
Describing her character she said, "I play a top ISI agent who is the
CIA's enemy. In a way, she could be Carrie's (a CIA officer with a bipolar
disorder in the same series) counterpart, but Tasleem is a Pakistani
agent." She also added that she will be involved in some action scenes as
well. Nimrat is very impressed with the shooting set-up and the bonding shown
by the show’s lead stars Clare Danes, Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin. She said,
"They've seen me in The Lunch Box and have been insisting that I make some
delicious Indian food for them…I decided to take them out for lunch at a local
Indian restaurant in Cape Town."
