Nargis Fakhri signed in to play Sangeeta Bijlani in Azhar biopic

After a lot of dilly-dallying, it can finally be confirmed now that Nargis Fakhri will be seen in the role of Sangeeta Bijlani in Anthony D’Souza’s film on the life of former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin.

Rumors were rife regarding the cast for the onscreen role of the model-turned-actress. Names like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Kirti Shanon, Nigirs Fakhri were doing the rounds. Director Anthony had brushed them aside as plain rumors, but also hinted that if the role demanded, one of them may be roped in.

It is revealed that the leggy lass of ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Mein Tera Hero’ has been signed for the role of as the makers of the biopic thought Nargis would be perfect to portray the yesteryear actress. “It is a glamorous role as Sangeeta is known for her vivacious personality and her Bollywood connections. They needed someone who was a model to play the role,” sources said.

The Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline was also considered for the role, but nothing materialized because of unavailability of dates. Ekta Kapoor, whose Balaji Motion Pictures will produce the film, had even thought of asking Sangeeta to play herself, but they required a younger actress to for the role.

A formal announcement is yet to be made though.

Meanwhile, Emraan Hashmi who will be playing Azharuddin, and Prachi Desai who will appear as the cricketer's first wife are gearing up for their respective roles. Especially, Emraan is training hard to perfect his cricketing strokes and he is being helped by Azhar himself.
