Naga Chaitanya, Samantha team up for Telugu remake of ‘2 States’

Real life couple Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu are reportedly set to play the roles of Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the Telugu remake of Bollywood movie ‘2 States’. The movie will go on floors soon.

Ever since ‘2 States’ released in 2014, several filmmakers have wanted to remake it in Telugu. And finally, Abhishek Nama of Abhishek Pictures has acquired the rights of the Hindi film at a hefty sum of Rs 55 lakh, according to reports.

Abhishek confirmed that he has got the rights for the Telugu remake ‘2 States’, and mentioned that he will introduce V.V. Vinayak's protégé Venkat Kuchem as an independent director with the remake.

"Venkat Kuchem has worked with V.V. Vinayak for nearly 10 years and I am introducing him as director," Abhishek told the Deccan Chronicle.

The producer thinks Naga Chaitanya and Samantha are perfect for the roles of the lead pair. "Samantha is a Malayali and Naga Chaitanya is a Telugu boy, so the subject suits them and their real life relationship will add glamour to it if they sign this film," the daily quotes a source as saying.

Abhishek also said that he wanted to cast Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Ramya Krishna and Revathi in the remake.

‘2 States’ is a romantic comedy-drama based on the eponymous novel by Chetan Bhagat. The movie revolves around the story of a Punjabi boy who falls in love with a Tamil girl. The difficulties they face in getting married due to their cultural differences, form the crux of the story. Directed by Abhishek Varman and co-produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala, the Hindi movie was a hit at the box office.
