Miss Asia Pacific Srishti seized at Mumbai airport
Srishti Rana who was crowned Miss Asia Pacific World 2013 recently in Busan, South Korea was not allowed to carry the diamond studded crown home as the customs was not paid for the crown.
Sristi was returning to India after winning the crown of Miss Asia Pacific world at a beauty pageant in South Korea. She landed at the Shivaji International airport where her crown was seized. She was asked to pay the duty for the crown as the crown was diamond studded.
However, according to the officials, if any participant wins such an award, the customs department needs to get a special exemption notification by the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). Since the custom department did not get any certificate till that time, the crown was seized for the time being.
Srishti Rana received the crown from last year’s winner Himangini Singh Yadu at a ceremony in South Korea. Last year Himangini won the coveted crown of Miss Asia Pacific World. This is India’s second victory in a row at this beauty pageant.
Srishti was the 2nd runner up at the Femina Miss India contest. Further she went on to represent India in the Miss Asia Pacific world contest.
Srishti is from Faridabad in Haryana. She did her schooling from Faridabad. She is a graduate in Mass Communication and Journalism.
Before Srishti, the other Indian females who won the coveted title of Miss Asis Pacific World are Zeenat Aman, Tara Anne Fonseca,Dia Mirza and Himangini Singh Yadu. While Zeenat Aman won the crown in 1970, Tara won it in 1973, Dia won in 2000 and Himangini won in 2012. Actress Namrata Shirodkar was the first runner up in the pageant in 1993.
After winning the title, Srishti said, “This is a dream come true! I am very proud of myself right now and still can't believe that I have won the crown. I have a long list of people to thank for their support but to name a few; I would want to thank God, my family, friends, Mr. Vineet Jain- MD Times Group and the Miss India Organization for their endless support. This wouldn't have been possible without any of them. I am so delighted at this moment”
Shristi also won the title for the best costume. She wore a peacock gown designed by designer-duo Falguni and Shane Peacock's gown.
