Mallika Sherawat and Sanjay Dutt to sizzle on screen
Mallika Sherawat has just signed David Dhawan’s next as-yet-untitled entertainer, to be produced by UTV, opposite Sanjay Dutt. The film also stars Zayed Khan.
David Dhawan, who is gearing up for his big release, Shaadi No 1, confirms, “Yes, I have signed Mallika opposite Sanju and she has a great role in the film.
She is very keen to do good work and not just sexy roles. In this film too, she is not a Plain Jane but I am not going to cash in on her sex appeal. Mallika is a talented actress and had acted very well in Murder. I have been wanting to work with her since then.”
The film is about “an anari lawyer played by Sanju who comes to fight a case which he has no chance of winning. Boman Irani plays the judge. Mallika plays his romantic interest and a typical bimbo. But appearances can be deceiving and during the climax, she will stun the audience with her turnaround.”
The script has been written by David himself, in association with Milap-Tushar. David adds, “There are other artistes in the film who are under finalisation. It will be an emotional entertainer. Comedy has to be there, it’s what I am good at.”
Mallika is at present in Beijing for the promotion of The Myth, which released yesterday in Asia.
She confirms that she has signed David’s next with Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan. Why did she do such a small role in The Myth, when she was getting such good offers from Bollywood?
Small role, dud film
Says the irrepressible actress, who doesn’t care much about the at best tepid critical response to her first international film, “I would rather do a small role in a huge film than a huge role in an obscure art house film. The Myth has released 3,100 prints in Asia, breaking the records of Titanic and Jurassic Park, and that’s great. At the end of the day, it’s a Jackie Chan film, not a Mallika Sherawat film,” she signs off.
Kaleem Khan, Mallika’s business manager, adds, “We have two films with UTV including the David Dhawan one, two with PNC including Pyar Ke Side Effects with Rahul Bose, Subhash Ghai’s Shaadi Se Pehle directed by Satish Kaushik with Akshaye Khanna and Ram Gopal Varma’s Darna Zaroori Hai. Mallika wants to do good work in totality and the film has to be a combination of everything – a good banner, script, cast and role.”
