Malayalam actor Sreejith Ravi arrested for misbehaving with schoolgirls

Malayalam film actor Sreejith Ravi was arrested for allegedly misbehaving with schoolgirls at Ottapalam in Kerala’s Palakkad district. He was later granted bail by the district sessions court.

Police arrested the small-time actor-cum-businessman on Friday, September 2, after a complaint by the principal of the school. The students told the principal that the accused allegedly exposed his private parts to them and took their photos with his cell-phone from his car. The girls the registration number of the vehicle, which led the police to the actor.     

The incident has occurred a week ago.

Police took Ravi, son of seasoned film actor T G Ravi, into custody on Thursday and investigation revealed that his phone was in use at the area stated in the principal’s complaint. "It was after verifying the complaint against him by the school girls that the actor has been arrested,” an official from the Ottapalam police station was quoted by a daily.

Ravi was arrested under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. The actor has, however, denied the allegations and claimed that he was engaged in a video chat with a friend in the area, police sources said.

Ravi began his film career in 2005 and has acted in more than 50 films, including ‘Nallu Penunngel’ directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Some of his other popular films include ‘Chanthupottu’ and ‘Mission 90 Days’, which is based on the Rajiv Gandhi assassination.
