Madhuri Dixit to play Indira Gandhi

Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit is all set to play the most powerful lady of India, the first woman PM of India, Indira Gandhi. It’s a huge project consisting of two parts and conceptualized by Asian-American filmmaker Krishna Shah. Shah has done an extensive research on the life of the former PM. He interviewed politicians, journalists, bureaucrats, writers, military men and her contemporaries and even read books based on her life story. The film titled, "Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story",

"I have followed Indira Gandhi's life through media, books and critics. It's such an exciting and dramatic story. I want the future generation to know her story. A whole new generation has grown and matured since her assassination and through this film I hope to connect people with their history and legacy," Shah said.

Apart from Madhuri, Bollywood actors Dharmendra, Abhay Deol and Nana Patekar were approached to play Motilal Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi and Jayaprakash Narayan respectively.

The first part will show Indira as powerful goddess who achieved victory against Pakistan in the 1971 war and the second part will cover her political journey.

Madhuri has given her nod to enact the role and the shooting will start soon.
