Luke was selected in 5 minutes for Rock On!
More than a decade and a half ago, a young Luke set out with a dream to be a rock star…. A dream he’s fulfilled with his role in Bombay Boys and now, in Excel Production’s upcoming film Rock On!! Luke plays Rob Nancy in this flick – the band MAGIK’s quiet fence sitter. A role he was signed on for in record time.
“Luke is an amazing musician. I selected him in 5 minutes. I called him up and asked him if he was interested in doing the film. We met, I narrated the script and he was on”. Director, Abhishek Kapoor
Starting out as a solo dancer in 1989, having been greatly influenced by Michael Jackson, Luke Kenny was first spotted at a college event. He then joined Arshad Warsi’s dance team as a Chorus Dancer and Assistant Choreographer. A rather humble beginning all the way back in the early 90’s.
A name synonymous with music, dance and entertainment; Luke’s career graph resonates the strong message in Rock On!! Live Your Dream.
In 1991 Luke dropped out of college to play the role of Jesus Christ in a musical interpretation of The Passion of the Christ. His own passion for music carried him forward form that point. In the early and mid 90’s, he worked as a DJ with Audiophile, a DJ consolidation company, playing as many as three clubs in one night! He was mentored by DJ Whosane!, Hussain Babai and DJ Freeatmah, Asad Zaidi. DJing remains one of Luke’s great loves as he enjoys bringing his brand, style and selection of music to his audience.
In 1995 Luke Kenny became India's First Indian Male VJ on Channel V. One of the channels most identifiable figures, he is still remembered fondly. His hugely popular show, Luke's After Hours, which featured an unparalleled selection of music videos specially chosen by him, ran on the channel for three years.
As a truly dynamic entertainer, Luke kept up his acting stints as well. He’s been seen in Vikram Kapadia's production of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Then came a short role in Kaizad Gustad's movie, Bombay Boys, playing the leader of an attitude-filled rock band that consisted of Model/DJ Tarun Shahani and Indian rock band Pentagram's Randolph Correa.
Kenny has also directed and produced his first feature film "13th Floor", starring Purab Kohli and Sandhya Mridul. The film was released on March 17 2006 under his own banner, Kenny Films Pvt. Ltd.
With this sleuth of successful stints, Luke still remains one of the industry’s most down to earth and amiable artists. Traits he essays naturally in Rob’s shoes in Rock On!!
