Lata Mangeshkar turns 84 today, shuns celebration
The nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar turns 84 today but she won’t be celebrating birthday due to mourning. She has shunned birthday celebration due to certain reason. Her elder sister Meena’s husband passed away recently.
"Recently, my elder sister Meena's husband passed away.
And before that my younger sister Asha lost her daughter Varsha. This has been
a bad year for the family. Even outside the family, there's so much happening
that is not right. I see no reason to celebrate," said the 83-year-old.
It is also heard that her brother Hridayanath Mangeshkar, has planned a eight-hour marathon concert in Pune to pay homage to his sister’s eternal voice. The concert entitled, ‘Didi Aur Main’.
Various musicians and singers will be playing at the concert and pay a musical tribute to the voice which has made India proud and immortalize Indian cinema.
Lata Mangeshkar said: "I've heard about the concert. It is my brother's way of showing his love for me. I won't be there at the show because if I am present the singers would feel very self-conscious."
Born on 28 September 1929, Lata Mangeshkar sung over thousand songs in more that thirty-six regional Indian language. She has won many filmfare awards and has been awarded with Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.
Her father died Dinanath Mangeshkar died due to heart disease when she was just 13. Popularly known as Lataji, Mangeshkar was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for recording most number of songs in the world.
