‘Kochadaiiyaan’ earns 42 crore in the opening weekend

Rajinikanth starrer, ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ strike gold at the box-office. Released last Friday, the film earned around 42 crore in the opening weekend worldwide.

"Eros International Media Ltd, has announced a blockbuster opening of 'Kochadaiiyaan - The Legend' at the box office with Rs 42 crore gross worldwide," Eros International, the producers of the movie said in a statement.

Directed by Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth, the film has been screened in 3000 theatres all over. The film was released in 2D and 3D and was released in six languages. ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ has earned Rs 30 crore in India and Rs 12 crore overseas, totalling to 42 crore.

"We are delighted with the response to the film which has been a labour of love over the last two years. We thank the critics and the audiences that have helped build such a momentum to the film", Eros International Plc., CEO and Managing Director, Jyoti Deshpande said.

The music of the movie was composed by Oscar winner A R Rahman and was produced by MediaOne Global Entertainment and Eros International have produced it.

The film also stars Deepika Padukone and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles and marks the direction debut of Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya R Ashwin.

Made on a budget of 125 crore by Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya Ashwin, ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ turned out to be a big name in the industry today. The huge Rajini fans waited with bated breath to catch the first day first show as this is Rajinikanth first movie since he recovered from illness. Trade analysts are optimistic that ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ would set a new box-office record.
