Kick overtakes ‘3 Idiots’ to Become 4th All Time Biggest Grosser

While Salman Khan’s much hyped release ‘Kick’ has not been able to impress the critics very much, its box office collections have been tremendous. The film was ensured a good opening by an Eid time release, the period that Salman Khan considers lucky. But even after Eid season is over, the film has continued a good run at the box office. Now as per latest reports, ‘Kick’ has established multiple records during its highly successful run.

Within one week it has completed a 200 crore collection. The film has also emerged as the biggest grosser of Salman Khan’s career and has surpassed ‘3 Idiots’ in terms of box office collections. On 5th August noted film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Kick crosses #3Idiots in domestic market. More records to shatter in days to come...” The Aamir Khan starrer ‘3 Idiots’ made a domestic collection of Rs 202.47 crore. It is now the fifth highest grossing Bollywood film of all time while ‘Kick’ is at number four. However, Salman’s good friend Aamir has nothing to worry about as his film ‘Dhoom 3’ is still the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time with a whopping domestic collection of Rs 284.27 crore.

Taran Adarsh also tweeted about the business done by ‘Kick’ in its second week. He posted, “#Kick [Week 2] Fri 9.22 cr, Sat 10.62 cr, Sun 14.18 cr, Mon 5.08 cr, Tue 4.21 cr. Total: ? 207.38 cr nett. BLOCKBUSTER!” The good news continued for the makers of ‘Kick’ as the film has emerged as the biggest oversees grosser of 2014. Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Kick Overseas crosses $ 10 million [? 61.35 cr]. Many screens yet to report. Highest grosser of 2014 *so far* in Overseas territory. FAB!”

The film has also drawn viewers in neighboring Pakistan and the film has grossed around 2 crore. The film was released in 42 countries around the world, including non traditional markets like France, Germany, Morocco and Maldives. After the grand opening of the film, director-produer Sajid Nadiadwala said in a statement, “"It has been a very special Eid. NGE started the year with a bang and 'Kick' has added to it. It's been euphoric. Celebrations at Salman and my residence have not stopped."

It looks like the celebrations will not be stopping anytime soon. While ‘Kick’ has claimed the 4th position in all time biggest grosser, it is just behind ‘Chennai Express’, the film of Salman’s friend turned rival Shahrukh Khan. If the good run continues ‘Kick’ can even topple ‘Chennai Express’ from its position.
