Katrina Kaif, Rishi Kapoor, Vipul Shah and others receive showcause notices
Model turned actress Katrina Kaif is half British and made her debut in the film industry with a film titled ‘Boom’, however the film had a miserable fate at the box-office. But the actress once again managed to revive and set her career in motion after doing boyfriend Salman Khan’s home production ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’. Now the actress will soon be seen in ‘Namaste London’ directed by Vipul Shah. On October 2, Katrina Kaif along with Rishi Kapoor and the rest of the unit were shooting for a sequence of the film at Khwaja Moinudeen Chisti dargah in Ajmer. However after the sequence there was a huge outcry by some members of the dargah as Katrina was seen wearing a knee length skirt, a dress considered inappropriate to be worn at the holy place of worship.
According to tradition, a woman needs to cover her head as well as legs while entering the holy shrine. Though Katrina had covered her head, her bare legs were the cause for outcry from traditionalists. According to some reports, the film unit had not even bothered to take prior legal permission to shoot at the dargah. Hence sources claim that recently Katrina Kaif, director Vipul Shah, actor Rishi Kapoor and film agent Babubhai Ghosi were served showcause notices by a member of the management of the dargah. However during the time when the sequence was shot, according to some members of the dargah ‘there was no problem from the committee but the media was blowing the situation out of control.’ Nonetheless there were members who claimed that the shooting had caused disruption and that Katrina wearing the inappropriate dress had shown disrespect.
The notice mainly asks the people concerned to publicly apologise for their act or else severe action would be taken. However director Vipul Shah claims that no notices were received yet but he said “Our intention was not to hurt religious sentiments. If the management feels that we have unknowingly done so, we are ready to make amends.” He also claimed that some of the Khadims (servers) of the dargah were informed that Katrina would be playing an NRI girl in the film and would be wearing a skirt. Nonetheless the director is apologetic about the entire incident and is even ready to delete the scene from the film in order to pacify the committee members. However according to one spokesperson from the dargah “Women are required to cover their head which the actor did. The row over her skirt is unjustified.”
