Karan Johar helps Shahrukh Khan land cracker of a deal for ‘Raees’

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Karan Johar share a close friendship and great working relationship too. So it is no wonder that the two help out each other professionally as well.

While Shah Rukh will be seen in a cameo appearance in Karan’s much anticipated film ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, the filmmaker too is helping the ‘Dilwale’ actor to get the best deal for the release of his upcoming film ‘Raees’.

‘Raees’ was originally supposed to release in July this year on Eid, but was postponed in order to avoid a clash with Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’. Now, it will hit screen on January 26 on Republic Day. But even then it is set for a clash with Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Kaabil’.

According to a report in a popular publication, the producers of ‘Raees’ – Shah Rukh, Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidwani, have locked Anil Thadani as the distributor of the crime drama. Karan, who had not just presented ‘Baahubali’, but even bought the Hindi rights for the film, told Shah Rukh how to score big with single-screen owners.

"Anil owns the distribution rights of ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘Mirzya’, so he made the single-theatre owners sign a three-film deal that he would give them these films only if they gave him maximum screens for Raees too. Now, for exhibitors, ‘Baahubali 2’ is one of the hottest releases of 2017 so they had no choice but to agree," a source was quoted by the publication.

While ‘Raees’ will benefit from this, Hrithik Roshan's ‘Kaabil’ may suffer. The source added, “The film will suffer badly if it doesn’t have any single-screen theatres in Mumbai.”

However, it is the content that rules. In the recent box-office clash between Hrithik’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’, the prriod film had the upper hand with maximum single-screens. But despite lesser theatres, ‘Rustom’ outshone ‘Mohenjo Daro’ in business.
