Kapil Sharma becomes ‘villain’ in 'Comedy Nights..'
‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ has been a very popular show on Indian Television and much of its popularity is attributed to its host Kapil Sharma. But the man who makes the audience roll over with laughter will now be donning a dark persona. While the news can be a shock to his fans, in reality it is not that bad. The popular show telecasted on the channel Colors has completed one year this Sunday. To mark the occasion, the show’s team has decided to shoot a special episode. The episode will be based around the soon to be released film, ‘Ek Villain’. ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ is a popular platform for promoting films and this time ‘Ek Villan’ will be promoted in a unique manner.
For the episode, the happy go lucky Kapil will be playing an evil, villainous version of himself named Sitto. The director of the film Mohit Suri and lead actor Shraddha Kapoor made their debut appearances on the show with this episode. The director and the actor were part of an audition which was held to select a top villain for the show. The audition was given the tiltle, ‘Villain Dikhhla Jaa’, a rip-off from the popular dance reality show, ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’.
Despite its high popularity among fans, Kapil Sharma had announced on Twitter that the show will be going off air in September this year. He said, “Comedy nights is going off air from September.. V will come back with new characters n new set.. Till den.. Keep smiling.” But the very next day he again posted in Twitter to say that it is not confirmed yet. He wrote, “Been thinking of Comedy nights new set, characters and a mini break... will consult with the channel n decide soon. Don’t worry be happy.”
Kapil Sharma has signed to do a film under the Yashraj Films banner. As a result, he will not be able to give time for the TV show like before. He reportedly asked the channel to reduce the show from twice to once a week. But the channel declined his request and its spokesperson has said that the comedian is bound by a contract and is not in a position to make these decisions. He was asked by the channel to clarify his statement immediately. The show’s writer Raj Kanodia has stated, “I have already written the script for seven upcoming episodes and the show won’t go off air anytime soon.”
