Kapil Sharma, Sunil Grover bury the hatchet
Kapil Sharma and ‘Gutthi’ aka Sunil Grover have decided to end their differences by not eating into the profits of each other’s show.
It is a well known fact that ‘Gutthi’ was one of the most popular characters of the show ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’. However, as the popularity of ‘Gutthi’ started increasing, Sunil who played ‘Gutthi’s’ character wanted an increase in his fees. But the producer of the show, Kapil Sharma was not in a position to revise his fees. As a result Sunil walked out of the show. After he moved out, the show was negatively affected. The ratings went down. After that Kapil took social networking site Twitter to express his feelings for Sunil and also requested him to come back.
But it was too late. The differences between them grew wider. In the meanwhile Sunil planned to air a similar show like ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ on another rival channel. It was also rumored that he was also planning to cast the popular character ‘Gutthi’ on the new show. It was also said that the show was scheduled to be aired at the same time as Kapil’s show is aired.
After this Kapil Sharma, the producer of ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ sent a legal notice to Sunil. The notice said that ‘Gutthi’ is an intellectual property of ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ which cannot be copied by any other channel.
Soon after, Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover also had a private talk following which they decided that they would not telecast both the shows at the same time. Airing both the shows at the same time would have simply meant eating into each other’s profit.
The daily quoted a source as saying, “Sunil has decided to not take on Comedy Nights With Kapil. Though Sunil’s show would be formatted like Kapil’s show it won’t be telecast at the same time.”
Sunil Grover will be back on small screen in a new avatar. However, he has not disclosed anything about his upcoming show. The channel on which he would appear is also not disclosed. When Sunil was asked about his new avatar, he just said, “It will surely be in the way people love me and want to see.”
He was also asked if he was restricted from playing ‘Gutthi’ character. He said, “I don’t want to comment on that. Let people say what they want to. I too have references on the matter and will talk it out when the time comes. But still, I am thankful and grateful to the platform (Comedy Nights with Kapil) for the opportunity.”
