KANK to be screened at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival
Karan Johar’s film Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna is all set to release on 11 August and there’s more good news for its makers, the film has been selected for a gala presentation at the prestigious 31st Toronto Film Festival. The film will be screened in Toronto on September 10 and Karan Johar along with the entire cast will be present for the event. The film deals with relationships and stars some of bollywood’s top stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta. Karan’s film KANK is one of the few Hindi films to be screened for a gala presentation at Toronto.
Director Karan Johar is extremely happy that his film KANK has been selected and says “I’m glad my film is being appreciated, with this screening the film will get extensive publicity in North America and it also might open up new avenues for Indian Cinema in North America.” Karan mentions that he got this wonderful opportunity as he had met the head of the Toronto Film Festival, Cameron Bailey at the Cannes in May. It was then that Mr. Bailey showed an interest in KANK. Hence he is extremely glad that he was present at the Cannes as it has broadened the prospects for both his film and Indian Cinema.
Karan claims that even though the film was not entirely complete and had to be given the finishing touches, the selection jury loved the film sans any finishing touches. The Toronto festival also generally selects unreleased films, but for KANK they made an exception and it will be screened almost a month after it has released in India.
Karan is currently busy with the post production for KANK and hopes to screen the film for the cast in a week or two. Recently the director also had a completion party for his entire cast. Karan truly believes that “an emotional film well told is all it takes to move hearts.”
