Karan Johar’s film Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna is all set to release on 11 August, however even before the film has released there is a huge hype surrounding the film. The promos of Kank have sparked off a keen interest in the film, even the songs are catching on with the masses. Moreover the huge starcast of the film and its unique storyline has created a strong buzz in the industry as well as amongst public. In fact all the advance bookings for the film are already house-full. Karan has also had a few special screenings of the film for the cast and other special guests.
There will be 900 prints of the film releasing and both multiplexes and single screen theaters are seeing a phenomenal advance booking for the film. Girish Wankhede, Public Relations for Cinemax, Mumbai say's “The advance booking in all our multiplex theaters as well single screen theaters has been wonderful.” The advance booking for any film usually begins two to three days before the release; however the bookings for Kank began the previous week on Sunday. A few single screen theaters have an advance booking for the film till August 15.

Although Karan Johar had decided not to throw a huge star studded premiere for his film, there have been a few special screenings of the film for the cast and a few special guests. The first screening was held mainly for the cast and crew of the film, there was a second screening for Karan’s guests, a third screening for the Bachchan’s and their guests and finally a fourth screening which saw both Shahrukh Khan and Karan’s guests. Several high profile people were also part of these guest lists. Nonetheless all the events had a select number of guests. The promos of two high profile films, Dhoom 2 and Kabul Express were screened during Kank. The film received a standing ovation from all the guests.

Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna deals with the issue of how marriages break-down and how even the most intimate relationships are affected. This is the first time that Karan has decided to make a film that delves into the not so pleasant and realistic side of life. This is also the first time that his characters will have both good and bad shades as well. Karan will be producing two other films this year, one to be directed by Soham who directed his earlier production Kaal. The film is yet untitled but it will star John Abraham, Sanjay Dutt, Kareena Kapoor, Ritesh Deshmukh and a few others. The other production will be directed by his apprentice Tarun Mansukhani and the script has already been decided, but the cast is still to be decided.

Karan also claims that the title for his film KANK has been taken from lyricist Amit Khanna’s songs. Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna was a line from Amit Khanna’s song ‘Chalte Chalte mera yeh geet yaad rakhna’. Karan says “I was lucky as I was able to get a title song for my film although it was a part of a very successful song in the past.” Kank is also all set to be screened at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival .
