Rajinikanth congratulates Kamal Hassan for winning French honour

Veteran Tamil actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan, who has been conferred the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts Arts et Lettres (Knight in the National Order Arts and Letters) by the French Government, has dedicated the prestigious award to his ‘admirers and audience’.

In an audio message, the maverick actor said, “I dedicate this award to my admirers and audience, who give me the tenacity of purpose to pursue, to this day and moment, my arts and letters.”

The 61-year-old actor added that he was humbled by the honour and added that the elders and young in his family enjoying it has assuaged the “melancholy of his parents not being alive to see this day.”

Kamal Hassan is the second Tamil actor to be awarded this honour after Sivaji Ganesan who received it 1995.

Congratulatory messages have been pouring in on the social media for the ‘Uttama Villain’ actor. Superstar Rajinikanth took to Twitter and in a Tamil post, wished his good friend Kamal Hassan for receiving the prestigious award and called him this generation’s Chevalier Sivaji.

Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader M K Stalin and the Nadigar Sangam (Artistes' Association) have also greeted the actor. Stalin hailed Kamal Hassan as a "multi-faceted" and wished more such awards for the hard-working actor. In a statement, the Nadigar Sangam said that award was a "recognition" of the Tamil cinema industry, and added that they would organise a function to felicitate Kamal Hassan.

Meanwile, Kamal Hassan, who recently suffered a leg fracture, will resume the shooting of his trilingual film ‘Shabaash Naidu’, while Rajinikanth is also busy shooting for ‘2.0’, the sequel to his 2010 hit ‘Enthiran’.
